Lewis W. Mathews Sports Complex

The Lewis W. Mathews Memorial Sports Complex is a cornerstone of recreation in Davenport. It recently underwent major renovations that feature state-of-the-art turf fields for baseball, softball, football, and multipurpose play. Originally dedicated on August 28, 2006, the complex honors Lewis W. Mathews, a lifelong Davenport resident who dedicated countless hours to serving and mentoring the city’s youth. His legacy of leadership and commitment continues to inspire the community today.

The complex features multiple named fields that reflect the support and generosity of local residents and organizations:
Derwin James Jr. Field A – Named for NFL standout and Davenport native Derwin James Jr., who continues to support youth sports in the community.
Milton “Popeye” Irby Field B – Dedicated in honor of Milton Irby, a local who invested in the youth and the future of Davenport.
Ray Adair Memorial Field 1 – Recognizing Ray Adair, who poured his time, energy, and resources into Davenport’s recreation programs and youth.
Gene Carroll Memorial Field 2 – Named in honor of Robert Eugene Carroll, a beloved recreational aide remembered for his service to Davenport’s youth.
Kelly Callihan Field 3 – Dedicated to City Manager Kelly Callihan, who has led an era of expanded programs, exceptional events, and fiscal stability for the city.
Brynn Summerlin Field 4 – Honoring former Mayor Brynn Summerlin, whose vision and leadership helped make this renovation a reality.

The Lewis W. Mathews Memorial Sports Complex was officially ribbon cut and dedicated on July 4, 2026. The complex will continue to serve as a premier destination for sports, community pride, and youth development in Davenport for many generations to come.
