Proclamation for Lieutenant Walter Henderson

On April 19, 2021, the Davenport City Commission passed and duly adopted the following proclamation honoring longtime Davenport Police Officer Walter James Henderson:

 

WHEREAS, Walter James Henderson was born March 11, 1932 in Ramer, Alabama to Arthur and Isophene Henderson; and

WHEREAS, Walter came to work for the City of Davenport in 1968 and served the Davenport Community for 37 years as its first African-American Police Officer. He rose through the ranks to retire as a Lieutenant in 2005; and

WHEREAS, Walter loved and was loved by all the school kids and enjoyed school patrol duty. You would often see the kids giving him a high-five as they headed home after school; and

WHEREAS, Walter was a man of a few words, but was known for his great heart and for always having a smile on his face;

NOW, THEREFORE, We, the City Commission of the City of Davenport, do hereby honor the passing of "WALTER JAMES HENDERSON" and express its appreciation for his many years of dedicated service to the City of Davenport.
