Eligibility and qualifying to run for City Commisison

Only qualified voters of the City who have been residents for a minimum of twelve (12) months prior to their qualification for office shall be eligible to hold the office of Mayor or Commissioner.

Signed petitions shall be filed with the Clerk any time after 12:00 p.m. (Noon) of the fiftieth (50th) day prior to the election, but not later than 12:00 p.m. (Noon) of the forty-sixth (46th) day prior to the election.

Election, terms, and term limits


1. The Mayor and all Commissioners shall be elected for terms of three (3) years.

2. A person may not be elected to more than two (2) consecutive three (3) year terms.  At the expiration of the second term, that person shall not be eligible to serve as a Commissioner, either by appointment or by election for a period of one (1) year. 

3. The regular election of the Commission shall be held on the first (1st) Tuesday in April. 

By completing a Florida Voter Registration Application which you may obtain at one of the following locations:

•the Supervisor of Elections office
•by mail, call (863) 534-5888 and an application will be sent to you

Only the voter, a member of the voter's immediate family, or legal guardian may request absentee ballots. 

A Voter may request that an absentee ballot be mailed to him/her either in writing or by telephone or email, or may personally appear with picture ID in the Elections Office to obtain or vote his/her absentee ballot.

A request for an absentee ballot to be mailed to a voter must be received no later than 5:00 p.m. on the sixth day (Wednesday) before the election by the Supervisor of Elections.

VOTED ABSENTEE BALLOTS MAY NOT BE TURNED IN AT THE POLLS, THEY MUST BE BACK IN THE SUPERVISOR'S OFFICE BY 7:00 P.M. ELECTION DAY.
