Reserve and Auxiliary Firefighters

The Davenport Fire Department Reserve and Auxiliary Program is a non-paid volunteer program. The program is designed for individuals interested in providing community services that reduce property loss caused by fire, hazardous situations, injuries, deaths, and other emergencies. Reserve and Auxiliary firefighters provide essential functions that assist the department and the residents of Davenport. Reserve and Auxiliary personnel participate in training classes, community events, department drills, and emergency response.

The Reserve and Auxiliary program consists of two types of personnel: (1) "Reserve Firefighter" (Immediately Dangerous to Life or Health-IDLH qualified), and (2) "Auxiliary Reserve" (Non-IDLH qualified) personnel. Reserve Firefighters may ride on combat ready vehicles with the Davenport FD crew and are expected to meet all standards and perform the same duties and functions as full-time firefighters. Auxiliary Reserve personnel can only assist with fire and emergency medical scene activities which are outside the IDLH atmospheres, hot zones, and inner action circle.

Personnel assigned to the Davenport Fire Department Reserve must document a minimum of fifteen (15) training hours per month and report for at least three (3), previously scheduled twenty-four (24) hours shifts per month, or seventy-two (72) hours per month total.

Personnel assigned to the Davenport Fire Department Auxiliary must document a minimum of fifteen (15) training hours per month and respond to at least six (6) emergency dispatched calls. The call number will be used to track these calls on the individual’s monthly tracking sheet. Training hours may be substituted for emergency dispatched calls for up to two (2) calls per month, with three (3) hours of training documented up to six (6) hours.

This Reserve program is only open to applicants residing in Orange, Seminole, Polk, Lake, Hardee, Highlands, Hillsborough and Osceola counties.

The Auxiliary Reserve program is only open to city residents and qualified residents of Polk County that reside within 5 miles of Davenport city limits.
